Getting your Texas Adjuster License just got easier! The Center for Continuing Education offers three Texas pre-licensing courses to get you started:

  • All-Lines
  • Property, Casualty, and Surety
  • Workers’ Compensation

Our Texas adjuster pre-licensing courses are online and have been approved by the Texas Department of Insurance as an alternative method of obtaining your Texas Adjusters license.

We make it easy! Each course is online allowing you to log-in as many times as you like, whenever you like, and the course remembers where you left off.

Don’t Worry! You can retake the final exam if you do not pass the first time.

How to Become an Adjuster in Texas

Step 1: Meet the following criteria:

  • Be at least 18 years old.
  • Be a citizen of the United States or a legal alien who possesses a work authorization from the US Immigration and Naturalization Services.
  • Be a resident of Texas or reside in a state other than Texas that does not license adjusters. (Note: If your resident state offers the exact license as Texas, you are not eligible to take this course. Reciprocity licensing will be used if a home state license is available).

Some applicants are exempt from the state exam or TDI approved course. The exemptions include:

  • Texas adjuster whose license has been expired for more than 90 days but less than one year;
  • Non-residents holding an adjuster license from a reciprocal states;
  • You have completed a course or training program within the last 12 months in adjusting losses as prescribed and approved by TDI; or
  • If you hold CPCU or AIC designation.

Step 2: Successfully complete a TDI approved course and exam from one of the two options:

Step 3: Submit required information to TDI

You can apply online via Sircon, or by mail. You will also need to complete the following:

  • The Certificate of Completion we send you once you successfully complete our course and pass the exam
  • Texas Adjuster Application
  • Pay an application fee of $50
  • Fingerprints

Texas Pre-Licensing Course Overview

The course is comprised of three sections:

  • Section One consists of online reading assignments (we call them units) with a five-question quiz at the end of each unit. The exam tests your knowledge of the material you just covered. You need to answer 4 of the 5 questions correctly to move on to the next unit. If you miss a few questions, don’t worry as the course provides the correct answer, as well as an explanation, and allows you to retake the quiz as many times as you need until you pass the quiz. The online quizzes also act as a great tool to prepare you for the final exam! Section One takes approximately 30 hours to complete. You can also login as many times as you like - progress on your own schedule!

  • Section Two consists of a downloadable self-study reading assignment that is meant to reinforce the material you covered in Section One. This section takes approximately 10 hours to complete.

  • Section Three is an online, proctored exam of 150 questions. You must answer 70% of the questions correclty to achieve a passing grade. Upon successful completion, you will need to fax/email us a copy of two affidavits: the Proctor Affidavit and the Self–Study Affidavit. Once we receive the affidavits, we send you a Certificate of Completion for your records and submittal to the Texas Department of Insurance. If you do not pass the first exam, a second exam will be automatically loaded into your student records to try again.

Texas Pre-Licensing Course Content

The course covers a wide range of insurance topics meant to provide you the knowledge and abilities to demonstrate to TDI that you have acquired sufficient knowledge to be licensed as an Adjuster in Texas. The average time to complete the course is 40 hours. Below are the topics the All-Lines course will cover:

The Property, Casualty, and Surety course is the same as above without the Worker’s Compensation topic.

Texas Insurance Continuing Education Hours

Once you’ve received your Adjuster license, the State of Texas requires that you take 24 hours of continuing education every two years. We have over 300 hours of classroom equivalent courses across a wide range of topics that will help you stay current on insurance topics while satisfying your CE requirements.
